Transeuropa Shipping Lines (TSL), parent company of Transeuropa Ferries (TEF), today unveiled its new acquisition, the MV “Wisteria”. The ship previously operated between Portsmouth and Caen, then Plymouth and Roscoff as Brittany Ferries “Duc de Normandie”. Since being withdrawn from service in 2004 she has been undergoing a refit in Poland, together with the fitting of new systems.
The Wisteria arrived in Ostend yesterday, via the Kiel Canal, and will remain in the port whilst further modification works are carried out for the Mediterranean trade.
Rihard Stergulc, Fleet Manager of TSL comments:
“We have been looking for a suitable vessel for some time and are pleased to be able to announce this new purchase, bringing our fleet strength to nine vessels”
“The ship will remain in Ostend whilst we upgrade her passenger accommodation to match our mini-cruise style” he added
The Wisteria, which has berths for almost 600 passengers is primarily suited to overnight crossings and will initially be used to expand Transeuropa’s service in the Mediterranean. In addition, the vessel is also very suitable for TEF’s Ramsgate to Ostend line and could be transferred to this service in the future.
Transeuropa Ferries n.v. is the cross channel satellite arm of Transeuropa Shipping Lines d.o.o. (TSL) of Slovenia and has operated a successful freight line between Ostend and Ramsgate since November 1998. The company currently offers 10 daily departures in each direction utilising six RoPax vessels. TSL also operates in the Mediterranean.
